Ran across this web page from a company named Tangent Industries that has a UV light curing glass chipping glue. It claims to work in minutes. Wondering if anyone here has tried this stuff. Seems like it would come in handy in a pinch.

Re: UV curing chipping glue.
Woe is me! What happened to the good ol'days when you could just sit around and watch the glue chip. Are we in THAT big a hurry.
UV chipping glue appears to create an odd looking chip as compared to that made by using hide glue.
The collagen in natural hide glue has that special "biologic memory" that goes through stages as it dries, and it is those stages that give it it's unique qualities. I would be willing to bet that this UV glue product will not produce the nice tendril and fern patterns that hide go produces. I'm not betting on a good double chip either, or snails and clams. Might be good for touch ups... maybe. One thing for certain, you can't save it and reuse it like hide glue. And I have got to wonder, with all the warnings of nerve damage and side effects labeled on UV products about breathing the esters and providing adequate ventilation, what does a large coated glass surface of this stuff require?
I find it amusing, that just today on the news they are proposing a ban on plastic grocery bags because the plastic takes YEARS to break down and grind forever away in the oceans to be consumed by ocean life at in most minute level of the food chain. They propose to start charging a price for each plastic bag if you request them.
Maybe I'm overreacting and missing the point. Maybe they are exchanging the ecological burden of plastic bags, for newer plastic and resin based products comin' down the pike. Ha, just think when fish eat all that plastic, you won't need a hook, they'll be floating on the water like rubber ducks.

Re: UV curing chipping glue.
Leo,
The stuff is brand new!
Ofcourse I have got it.
And it is sitting on my desk for a few weeks.
I am planning to try it next week.
I have the feeling that I can screenprint this stuff and so make a very fine detail in the glue chip, when using a screenpirnting sandblast resist Pat da Vinci makes.
The pattern can be changed, so feather and snail is possible.
To be short: like normal chipping glue this just needs some tests, but if you have nailed the right variables it is much much quicker to produce glass.
Very good to teach it in the workshop/dvd especially done for the 10.000 chinese Letterheads that are waiting to begin.

Re: UV curing chipping glue.
I was thinking the same thing about the chip pattern, it doesnt look quite as nice. But you never know, a little experimenting and it might come out half nice. I was thinking , like Patrick says, that it might be better for touch ups or if time is of the essence.
Erik, Please post a follow-up on the results with this glue, I am very curious about this. What kind of pricing is involved with this glue, by the way?

Re: UV curing chipping glue.
Okok Leo and Pat,
I did not got my glue from this American firm, but from the German firm who discovered this glue.
By the way Pat, like I told you before this company will be attending the world glass tradeshow in Germany aswell.
The sample you see on the American website is excactly like a piece of some chemical wizzkids who can produce a paint, but do not know how to paint themselves.
The glue is a tool, that should be used by experienced craftsman that know what to make when glue chipping.
So do not judge the product yet by this awfull sample.
I do not know the price.

"So do not judge the product yet by this awful sample."
You are right Erik and I was enjoying playing the devil on this one right down to the rubber duckies.
The sample you posted from the company did not look unlike some samples from people trying their first attempt and using animal glue.
I know that you are adept at conventional glue chipping and will be able to test this glue to see if it can achieve similar results to hide glue. I look forward to you giving it a test drive and describing the results.
As was so wisely mentioned above, it could be a great and fast aid in quick chipping projects conducted in glass decorating classes.
