Gordon Farr ,Signwriter

Post by DAVE SMITH »

I recently got together with my mentor Gordon Farr. I met Gordon at the weekend for the first time since 1992 . I started work with Gordon in 1983 at 15 years old
He called by to see me and then to go on and visit another good friend in Hospital. We had lost contact due to him moving away after I had finished my apprentiship with him .
He is now 73 and for the first time in 16 years he has made this sign which was all hand painted free hand without drawings for text. I used to watch Gordon write the most beautiful Trajon Roman letters using a chalk line to mark out and then he would handpaint the letters at half inch tall onto honours boards and then he would gild them. He also was very good at ticket writing and showcard work. He said the centre portion of this sign (the pink text) was there own logo.

It was great to see him again... just thought I would share this pictorial with you guy's

That's a real nice post Dave- we all owe so much to those that go before us.
I can see now where you get your talents
.
.
.( where your kids got their good looks and charm from is perhaps more of a mystery :D )
