Blake 'n Jenco Decorative Glass

Few days ago, a private contract came thru, asking for special individual glass pieces for doors inside a private residence.
Since I have had good fortune and a busy year, I produced a colored rendering to size, on paper mounted on showcard stock, for the client to give to her husband for his birthday.

Three different panels of glass were ordered, approx 43in x 24in.
Production of the glass can now proceed at my pace, and there's no reason to hurry.

I decided to take it easy, and not turn this into work.
So, I packed up my wagon, and headed out to Machine, where a fella can unwind and rest a spell,
along with my friend, one Mr. William Blake.

Once they ordered 3 pieces of glass, it's easy to make it six.
Always like to be safe and have an extra on hand.

After discussing the beauty of different embellishments,
Bill and I proceeded to cut the mask. While he set up his blastin gear,
I weeded, taped and applied the masks. 4 glasses, one booth. Just like the good ol days.

I know this ain't California we're sellin...

perhaps a little explanation is in order...the four pieces (two actually) here are for a 'spa' and 'gym' in the residence.
They'd like light coming thru, yet still want privacy.
So, the combination of sandblast etching and glue chipped, sounded pretty good.

After the first etching, the four pieces were coated with asphaltum, and when dry, applied the second mask for blasting.

took us a break while letting the asphaltum dry, so we can enjoy a nie bbq'd boneless rib eye.

after pulling the masks, time to flow the glue.

while the glue setup, we acid etched the areas on the two 'west wing' pieces.
Broke for a nice sushi dinner, and then i hitched up my wagon back with 'west wing' pieces in my care.
Meanwhile, Mr. Blake oversaw the chipping, after which, he cleaned and chipped a second time.

Back in Santa Ana,
I gilded one of the 'west wing' panels, 23k,
with a 18k and 23k blend in the main text.
Backed it up...

and received a telegram, sayin my chipped glass is ready for cleanin and temperin.

After a days hard ride, back at Machine we cleaned the glass thoroughly,
in preparation for tempering.

we have that glass cleaned, and we are ready to wedge more fish.

might we suggest the Satomi Signature Set? Its a very fair deal,mind you...

Now I know why you guys allways talk about that sushi, it looks great! Yummi!!!
The sushi they sell here in Nederland are maybe three times smaller than what I see here on the photo.
Maybe that is why the say: "Going Dutch"

May I ask how the asphaltum was applied, because I seem to have some trouble with putting a nice even layer without any wholes showing through. The work already looks very good. Looking forward to see the next steps.

asphaltum applied with foam roller... ain't easy, son, but it could be done.

why do they serve sushi so large? because, this is america.

easy, easy, the first think a gilder of glass needs to learn is to take things easy.

These are finished and ready to be installed tomorrow.
At that time, I will take 'in place' pictures and post.
