I tried searching first and didn't see anything that jumped... so excuse me if I'm asking a redundant question! I am a total novice with some painting talent. Recently I did a hand painted sign on MOA(?) board with one shot paint for a friend as a favor, and now I have had several request to do projects for others. I tried calling a local shop here in Alaska and as you can probably guess, he wasn't real forth coming as I was up front about why I was requesting info!!! I would love any links (or must know tips). But what I am most interested in is how do I come up with a fair and reasonable price for this kind of work!

On a side note.... WOW! There's some talent here!

Hi Spring,
I would look for a sign pricing guide at a sign supply store. That will get you started. Then think about how much you should get paid an hour to do things.

Hand lettering 60.00 per hour 4 hrs = 240.00 and so on.
Materials + mark up
Travel time

Make a list of everything you need to do and materials and add it up. There are also alot of on line sign companies with auto pricing calculators that will give you prices. Mostly for vinyl and cut out lettering. Just keep in mind to try and not under sell the work because it hurts everyone around you.

Good luck

I would suggest a subscription to SignCraft Magazine (www.signcraft.com) too which will give you some great sources, maybe other magazines as well. Also, look up Bob Parsons in Anchorage. He has always been a good Letterhead.
