Victorian Brighton , London's Seaside town

Post by DAVE SMITH »

A had a few days away with my family last weekend in a city called Brighton about 1 hour west of London.
Brighton is an old city with many charming buildings and lots of character. Attached are a few of the original old signs still surviving in this area. There are so many but would take ages to post here.
Just thought I would share these pics with you guy's as you may never get a chance to see them due to so many old buildings and signs disapearing from our towns and cities.
Enjoy.

Dave,
Thanks for sharing. The gold signs were nice but that transom caught my eye. I like the way they bordered the little floral panels and I also caught the way the used a strap cut to section the window, much like a lead line appears in stained glass. Pretty amazing to know that the ornately decorated transom piece was just an ordinary piece of sheet glass to begin with.
Really neat!
Pat

Oh sure! Just slap that No Smoking sticker right over that toned acid etched panel...

This is what I'm talking about!
Can anybody tell me what's wrong with this picture?

....anybody?....anybody at all?

What! They don't serve oysters until noon?...

I don't want to be their buddy, Dave,
I just want some oysters for breakfast...
Have you ever heard the expression,
"The customer is always right?"
Ya...well, here I am...the customer....

I think we have a critic...

Keep postin' those outstanding pictures!

I know Larry it does make you wonder if anyone really does see this stuff, I guess they just don't see it as art but just some window door panel in a pub. When I asked the guy who was running the bar if it was ok to take a photo he just said why do you want a photo of that door,he probably had been working there for years and never even thought anything of it or even noticed it. I would rather be creating these works than pulling a pint all my life. I'm not bitter!

Doug glad you like them mate, would be a great place to meet.
