Reverse glassart symposium

Post by erik winkler »

1-2 oktober in the German city of Riedlingen.
Losts of international speakers will give lectures about the ancient history of reverse glass painting, used techniques, restoration etc. etc.
Mostly German tonque, but that should not be a problem as I know for sure that a lot of you are very eclectic and worldwise.
They will mainly discuss the style used in the Bohemian region like Bavaria, Austria, Tirol, Czech republic, Switserland etc. etc.

Have a terrific and learning weekend!

Erik

Wow, this looks incredible. I can't get there, but it would be an extraordinary set of lectures.
Note it coincides with an exhibition of 150 reverse paintings spanning around 300 years.

Erik, Do you know Simone Bretz?
I would love to meet her. She has done some conservation work on some very significant pieces including one by Sprungli and has worked with the Ryser Collection of reverse paintings.

For those of you who have no idea of what I'm talking about, if you trace back the history of reverse painting and gilding on glass, you inevitably come across work done all over Europe over a long period of time and covering many different phases and places.

To some, they may seem unrelated, but if you look at our sign-related glass gilding work as part of a longer artistic tradition, there is some fascinating things in the history of our art.
