Ethics in Business

Post by Roderick Treece »

A very interesting discussion is begining to form out there.

Let's say,

I create artwork with the intension of it being sold by someone else.

The other party and I agree on what the terms are in the begining .

I am told I need to clean up the art work and am happy to do it.

I am told after the fact that the seller has hired a third party to clean up my creation without giving me a chance to do it first .
At this point we renegotaite the terms.

When I get my commission check the seller tells me without prior notice that he has changed the terms of our agreement.

In addition the third party that was hired by the seller to clean up my art work is now listed as Co Creator of my original art work.

When I voice my displeasure the seller blames me and Discontinues carrying my art works.

In my mind this doesn't sound ethical . I'd like to get some other opinions about it.

Roderick,
I can tell you a lot, but will not be able to put in the correct English words about this legal matter.
For now I can give you this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellectual_property.

But I remember Mike Jackson wrote a good and interesting article about this subject in Signcraft magazine and he probably could help you with this problem.

Sounds like robbery.

Man's word is a valuable thing. Don't wanna lose it over lack of contact or communication.

I always thought the truth was easier, tell a man how you feel.

Times change. Less social contact among men.
'Course, can't put much stock in a man who spends most of his time talkin' thru a keyboard.
Talkin thru a gawddam keyboard.

More and more everyday, we need to see the paper... sign, sealed, signatures, everything,
make sure it's all in order.

Most of the time, place ain't worth doin business with anyway.
Heck of a way to run a business, really enhance your opportunities for success, truth be told.

Its a new kind of time we're in, but, the old rules still apply.
You treat people the way you want to be treated.

So, when your business is startin to slide, people no longer dealin with you,
best take stock in yourself.

Communication is everything to human nature. There is nothing that can't be worked out by communicating each others position in a dispute.
Whether it is a group on group problem, or one on one. As long as they can employ civilized communication and make their feelings known.
But if they refuse to communicate and refuse to speak to each other, then a mediator must is added to facilitate their communication.
Otherwise it can become known that one side was willing to work things out and get along, but the other side simply walked away from the table.
In the end, it is the nature for those who were not at all involved to make their own decision based on their feeling- That's how rumors are born.
