Glass Slide

Post by Mike Jackson »

Hi all,
I ran across this piece on eBay a few days ago and won it for $16 today.

Other people here probably know more about these things than me, I just thought it was cool.

Here's the description:
VG Sign, Banner & Flag Maker, on Glass Slide, c1890s
A nicely hand-lettered, color glass slide, measuring 3 3/4" square, having the advertising sign of Savory, Manufacturer of Banners and Flags, on Tremont Row, Boston. In VG condition.
Thats a lot of copy to hand letter on a 3 3/4" square piece of glass! Wow!

Here's a link to a page about Lantern Projectors and a little more about the slides of the period.

It would probably be a good piece to donate to the American Sign Museum once I have a chance to enjoy it a while.
