Nice piece! Are you looking to sell it?
Thanks for all that additional information, Robare
....perhaps you should be a private investigator!
I like the old reverse glass piece over the current
digi print signage for the fitness center....

Re: What to do first? Gilding or silvering?
I've done both gold deposition and silvering in the same process. One way is to completely clean the glass, then isolate the gold area with a bead of industrial strength hot melt glue, gild this area with the gold solution, pour off, then silver the whole piece. The silvering creates the mirror fini...

Re: What to do first? Gilding or silvering?
Its not impossible to silver over gilding or other painted work, but it can be difficult, and risky. I think its always best to plan out the steps as: 1) Any glass surface alterations such as glue chipping, acid etching, sand carving, etc. 2) Any type of solution gilding work, then 3) Gilding, paint...

Re: Thinking of venturing into the sandblasted sign business and
Greetings John- It'd be my surmise that the type of equipment you'll need will be based on the size of the work that you envision doing. If you're gonna do big stuff, then you'll need bigger equipment. Where you're going to do the actual blasting would also be a factor. If you live out in the countr...

Re: Tinting between glass and leaf
My approach is a little different than Rod's. The problem with Rod's method, is if you water gild the 23K brightlines first, you then have to get the excess gold out of the glue chipped letter centers... arduous at best... My approach was, after the glue chipping, I applied a clear vinyl mask over t...

I've had very good results using transparent artist oil colors, like for fine oil painting. If you look on the tube, it'll say "Transparent". Use only the transparent variety. Semi-transparent and opaque types won't work. Also, on the tube, will be a color fastness rating. Get the highest ...

Re: Glue chipping question
If you've gone that far with your project, let it ride and see if it chips. A good idea is to set it up inside somewhere with some additional heat. I find my glass chips good around 100 degrees. A small circulating fan helps too. I do it in a chipping cabinet, which might be a good idea in Florida. ...

Re: Hand Lettering Mess
Pierre Tardif from Canada has recently completed an instructional brush lettering film. I believe it will be available at the end of the month. If his instruction is as good as his lettering, it ought to be a darn good video! Perhaps you should look into acquiring one. The Abc of Sign Painting Hey, ...

Tell 'em to just leave it....its a sign of the times....
it too can become a ghost sign in a hundred years....
Guess I'm amazed that anyone really cares about that old sign...
other than us sign painters...

Re: The Hensley Co.
My brother sent me this picture of an old Coca-Cola sign he saw at the Goodwill.
Looks like a Hensley piece. They were asking $99 for it...seems a little high for a thrift store piece.
Hey, if anyone wants it, I could make arrangements.

It is possible to download a digital copy of the scans that Damon made from the flickr site. The original size downloads are 1440 x 1080, which isn't a bad size....better than nothing. I suppose.
