Monogram Engraving Templates
I bought some old paper this past Monday. One of my buys was a 'book' of monogram patterns, one plate of which I included here. The jewelry business from which this book came closed in the Mid-Twenties. It has a total of sixty plates which are edged with gold. There is no covers present. It has a se...

Re: Old Sign Companies
I found old paper on Monday from several companies: Bentham Sign Company, 110 Winston St., Los Angeles, CA. Two pieces of letterhead, one dated 1917, the other 1918. Scioto Sign Company, Kenton, Ohio. No address listed on a nice letterhead. Must have been a one sign shop town. W.E. Blair, 171-173 E....

Pabst Beer Mirror Restoration
Do any of you folks do mirror restoration? I was visiting my source for old paper yesterday (an Antique dealer), and he inquired if I did gilding on glass. I explained that it had been forty years since I'd done anything like that, and I told him I'd ask. It's an old Pabst Beer mirror. I've not seen...

Re: A book worth mentioning - Gold Leaf Techniques
Roderick,
I've still got mine! And haven't used it for well on to forty years. A Jugglers hard rubber ball on an aluminum rod which I got from Dick Blick as I recall - and for the same reason. LEFT-HANDED, although I'm ambidextrous with a brush.Being Left handed I think it's even more important.

Re: Old Sign Companies
I have not looked on the Sign Museum site, but I was talking to a friend of mine this AM about an unrelated topic, and he told me his grandfather ran a neon sign company in the Bowery in the Thirties. His name was Korn, and the name of the sign company was Crescent Neon.

Re: What constitutes sharing of fonts?
Thanks, Frank! I just got a look at your site and I'll be going back for more. It is really interesting how we all end up finding our way around. My wife encouraged me to quit being a color copy machine, so I've branched out and gone off the envelope of late. I started a blog, only because I have li...

What constitutes sharing of fonts?
Since I only discovered Letterheads a couple of weeks ago, I haven't examined every link or every page. I've gone back in the forum at least six months, and I think I've read them all. I've never used an alternative font on my computer, nor am I actively involved in the sign arts as a business. I di...

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished
Rob, That's really nifty. And might I ask why you did the Cigar Store mirror? Just curious as to whether it was something you just wanted to do or if someone wanted it done. You can have this piece of paper if you want it. All that I ask is that if you come across some piece of paper that needs a li...

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished
Rob, I got your message, and decided I'd just attach the scan here on your post. If you want a higher res scan, I have it as well. I'd intended to put the cigar box liner (my art work) on this piece of paper, but I haven't decided whether or not I can put the liners for any of the three cigars menti...

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished
Rob, I'm new to the forum, so please don't kick the newbie. I really like the mirror, and the only reason I'm replying is because I'd like to know if you have any historical information on this Cigar business. I'm not in the sign art any more. As a matter of fact I've been doing art on envelopes for...
