Re: Interesting Scam

Mike, I live on Ebay and Craigslist and that one is very very old, if I started telling you each scam that happens ever day on those boards you'd be shocked. Heres one: When I lived in Florida after the hurricanes a guy stating that he lived out of state was offering no credit check housing, he post...

Mike's Design with a twist - Chalkboard art

Well I cannot take any credit for this one other then doing the actual work. This is Mike's design and a friend that does fauxs idea about tuning this into a chalkboard. I have to say it is genius as my sister in law wants one as does 2 salons owners that I know (different word or course) and a cate...

Re: Restoring the mirror panels on a 1940's Dresser

James, Already have the patterns on their way to me she sent them yesterday. I have done a couple of these but never once have I done one long distance. Fortunatly I got a glass guy involved on the other side and he was the one that made the patterns and he is the one that will size it and install i...

Restoring the mirror panels on a 1940's Dresser

Well I love a challange but this one is a big one. I am matching panels finish to a 1940's dresser, below is a pic of the dresser (which is in CA and I am in IL) and also a pic of the original and my sample. My sample is under the piece on the bottom right. The match is 99% spot on but it was simple...

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished

Roderick or anyone, Ok you have me interested in what barrier coat you are suggesting. Normally I back the antiqued mirror glass with rust-olium roll on semi gloss (oil). I have read that it is best to start with shellac is that true and will that stop any continuing of tarnishing? Here is the thing...

Re: Alaskan Gold Rush

Yes I am very familar with Faux Effects products as that is where I took some classes for faux finishing. Most of there stuff is awesome but very costly when it comes to something like this and there are tons of other ways to do it that work but I wanted to see what company makes this stuff. Thanks ...

Re: Alaskan Gold Rush

I am going to call them today and see if they still offer this crackle and if so I am going to buy a few gallons. Now I have a question, I love the look of the antique glass that you got and it may just be the lighting but can you share how you got that antique look to the panels? I know about the s...

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished

I can do them perfect but I dont want to start a re-silvering biz. I may consider it with Sarah's new spray stuff but who knows. I know that the above mentioned paints do a little tarnishing and actually if I want it to stay perfect I use Permalac spray lacquer and have had great luck with it. Truth...

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished

Hmmm... Tarnishing antiqued mirror glass, that might be ok! I love it when things tarnish. I have always backed my stuff without a barrier coat and I have about 200 samples sitting in this house and there is some from as long ago as 4 years and nothing happened so far but there is always room for ho...

Re: chipping question

Ok I dont know alot about glue chipping but I do know some about hide glue from repairing antiques and you should be able to soak the area in warm water and it will loosen it. Well at least it should and since it is glass it will not hurt to do that.

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished

By the way the things that look goofy are an illusion as I use the ceiling (which is white) and the flash of the camera toss shadows which make it look that way. I hate trying to take pics of mirrors but I love to do them!

Re: Cigar Store Mirror - Finished

Roderick, I would love to know what all of you guys do but I have my own way of making things look different. I go for vintage instead of new, I like it when things give the illusion of falling apart and revealing another backing which to me looks real! When I am mirroring I arrest certain areas of ...

Artwork attached to glass or seperate? How do you do it?

In a conversation on the phone with Mike the other day we talked about applying artwork to open areas of mirror or painted glass. How do you guy apply the artwork or do you let it free flow. Here is mine and it is attached and it is not paper, post stock but insted printable art.
