Re: Aura Paints - Tony?
WHEW!!!! Thanks Tony! So, if you can't use universal tint colors do you need to have a dozen cans of basic colors to do a rendering.....aka "fine art" painting? I have had the same results with single coat colors covering well. BTW, at our last meet, I asked a veteran pin striper to try th...

screwing HDU test?
I want to try a couple of different ideas to secure screws into HDU but a can't think of a test that actually measures the strength of the attachment. I've got a few Rube Goldberg ideas but they are pretty complicated. Any ideas? I'll try anything reasonable. "Test, test, test.......gotta have ...

Quick edge rounding tool for HDU
Here's another secret I've been keeping from Danny... This little puppy really helps to quickly round the edges of a HDU panel. No fuss, no muss. I generally use the 1/8" rad. http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w244/jcieslowski/IMG_0018-3.jpg http://i178.photobucket.com/albums/w244/jcies...

Re: Epoxy Question
The dibond/HDU test by Doug was at Ray C's request.....something about a dissimilar materal test. Danny, I plane or drum sand after glue-up but the shrinkage came days later....no matter "II" works just as well (but "III" does have a color difference too). Remeber the add "T...

I'll just throw this into the mix........ Many years ago I always used Elmers Waterproof Glue for the outdoor work....I believe it's a resorcinol glue. It was two part and a mess to use but it worked.....it was the standard for boat building. When titebond I came out I switched. It was moisture &quo...

As always, this meet was a success due to the energy and talent that walked into the door. Many friendships were renewed and many new ones made. Spaecial thanks to Maria and Phil Ghi and their crew for providing the venue and necessities to make it all happen. A few moments captured..... http://w178...

Re: How to get the most from a Letterhead Meet?
Thanks Mike and Tony! We do have several presenters to demo different skills as well as a workshop or two. It is a little late to develope a particular theme but I do like the "How would you design this sign" idea. It will certainly help someone who can't think of something to do as well a...

How to get the most from a Letterhead Meet?
With our meet coming up next weekend, I thought it would be great if meet veterans would share their ideas on how to get the most from a Letterhead meet. What to bring? What to do? etc
Questions from newbees would fit in well here too.
Thanks in advance!

I asked about that as well. They don't color it. The epoxy is clear. Most of their signs use aluminum under the smalts with a black finish......it is heavily scuffed tho.

Erik,
The shop in town has been using West Systems epoxy adheasive and has never had any problems. The brand probably isn't important. They lay on a heavy coat with a china bristle brush and throw it out (the brush)......carefull, it sets fast!

I also agree that all PU glues are not created equal. Just like HDU, the less urethane in it = less cost. Cheap PU glues have more filler....less urethane. Shelf life...... True! They all have a shelf life, but the denser ones last longer (read more expensive). Now, I'm going to express a personal o...

Danny, How did I figure that out? I always say that the blessing of age (or is it a curse?) is you have more perspective. (experience?) I was taught in college that glues by themselves have no strength. Glue is a bonding agent used to adhear two pieces of material together. The less glue between the...

Testing 30+ year old size
This thread got lost so I'll post my test process and hope that Kent Smith can jump in with the great info/history that he added in the original. This is a can of size I found from more than 30 years ago. It's quite full because after I used it a couple of times, I couldn't get the cap off so I swit...
