Opaque Projectors... What do you use?

Hey, it is time to buy my first opaque projector and I am wondering who is using what and what I should look for when purchasing.

Thank you in advance.

While browsing the Feature Articles....

I have seen a common element used in Rawson & Evans as well as in the Atkinson book of torches and smudge pots, does anyone know what these represent? It seems to be a really popular design element in lots of Art Nouveau stuff as well. I am asking because it is a cool element that I would like t...

Hey Collard, Buy the book called Gold Leaf Techniques and read it cover to cover. There are multiple ways to do it and finish it off. For example, most are done on the inside of the glass and then backed up and cleared.... see the Bakery window thread on here. It is also possible to oil gild the ins...

What brand gold do you prefer???

Hey guys and girls, I am wondering what brands of gold you prefer for different purposes. I personally have liked the FOAB and Manetti in patent 23K gold. I just used up my pack of Schwabacher loose 23K gold which I was never happy with, too many pinholes. I have a couple of books of the FOAB 23K gl...

Hi Cam, excellent topic. I am still a green horn at lettering, but choose to do all my work that way. I like being in control of how long my work will last and being able to work on irregular surfaces. I do use the computer for making patterns or letterstyles that are monotonous (sp), or customer sp...

I have been using this new green tape from Europe. It is 1/2 the price of the 3M, and though it smells funny, it works great. It is a lot like the 3M blue tape. I want to see if they have a version of the 3M green. It is available from our local AutoBody Supply house.

Hey Cam,

I still have about a half pint of the Chromatic COV, but ordered up some Commonwealth WW Window Varnish from Esoteric.
I have only used the Asphaltum from Commonwealth, I hope the rest is of the same quality.

I am talking about the old Chromatic Clear Overcoat Varnish that was used for clearing over reverse gold work on glass. This stuff only came in Pints. I have a qt of the Super Gloss Tinting Clear, don't remember where it came from, I don't use it too much. The last job I used it on was a transparent...

Bakery Window questions.....

Hello again, I got another Gold job in town, this time for a bakery. Anyway, I have read in numerous places that it isn't advised to water gild the windows of restaurants or butcher shops (it was old info), due to the humidity on the glass in the winter etc. Should I suggest oil gilding the glass in...

Why not just back up the gold? Is the silver tougher? To clean off the excess, is it done the same way as water gilding? I haven't read the article yet, just asking questions based on my current understanding.

The glass pieces are incredible, I would love to see one be made before I try it on my own. I just feel more comfortable doing it that way, that way I can ask questions along the way. Again, FANTASTIC work!

Hey there, I have a bunch of new (old stock) quills and since I am still new to all this, I am wondering what the best way to break-in new brushes is. Here's the quote to save you the trip....... "You can use around 5% 1-shot hardener in the back-up enamel, this improves it no end. And don't forget to stir that back-up well before use. When the outlines are dry you can very lightly rub them with 0000 steel wool to lower any ridges even more, ...
